Training After Moving to Batumi: Rebuild Your Routine

A move can unsettle even a familiar exercise schedule. I suggest building a new routine around manageable sessions, comfortable walks and your actual week.

Training After Moving to Batumi: Rebuild Your Routine

You can see the sea every day after moving to Batumi and still struggle to find time for exercise. Housing, work and everyday arrangements can quickly displace your old schedule. I suggest starting with a small, workable plan: a convenient route, realistic appointment windows and activity that suits your current preparation.

I am Lyudmila Overkovskaya, a trainer with more than 15 years of experience. When someone comes to me after a move, I first want to understand their new day. The old programme is useful background, but it does not need to be copied unchanged. We can build a routine around your current location, working hours and circumstances.

Avoid trying to restore everything at once

You may previously have trained close to home before work. Now you might be working across time zones or still figuring out the neighbourhood. That gives us a reason to reconsider the arrangement. I begin with a practical question: what small action could you repeat this week without having to reorganise everything else?

Choose one main task for the beginning. You could set aside two windows for movement or arrange an introductory gym visit. Adding early mornings, daily workouts and long walks together can make the plan difficult to understand. Once the starting routine is clearer, decide where you want more activity and where the existing amount is enough.

Look at the whole week first

Write down working hours, essential errands and travel. Then look for space without assuming the other commitments will somehow move. Count the whole gym visit, including preparation, the journey and getting home. That makes it easier to distinguish a realistic appointment from an attractive entry in the calendar that rarely works in practice.

Try the route at the time you intend to use it. A gym can look close on a map and still be inconvenient after work or in wet weather. If the journey repeatedly feels difficult, consider a different time before blaming your motivation. The arrangement should help you attend, rather than create the same obstacle every week.

Agree on a smaller fallback

I like having a simple alternative ready. If a longer walk does not fit, you could take a short familiar route. If a work call disrupts training, check the next available window and discuss rescheduling. A fallback reduces the amount of planning required when the original day changes. It does not need to match the original workload.

Planning around humidity and hot summers

Batumi has a humid subtropical climate and hot summers. When choosing a session time, consider the journey as well as the appointment. Allow time to arrive, change and notice how you feel. There is no need to rush directly from a brisk walk in the sun into the first demanding exercise.

Bring water and comfortable clothing, and choose times that feel manageable for outdoor activity. Tell me when the weather is making the day difficult. I can simplify the session, allow longer pauses or review the amount of work. Repeating a previous workload simply to preserve the training record is not the aim.

I do not give everyone a fixed adjustment period or promise that exercise will feel easy after a particular number of days. People arrive with different experience, routines and health considerations. We use your feedback to guide the plan. Do not dismiss feeling unwell as something that must be tolerated just because the climate is unfamiliar.

Make the boulevard part of an ordinary day

Batumi's seaside boulevard can be a pleasant place to walk if getting there is convenient. Start with a route that requires little preparation. Choose a familiar turning point and give yourself permission to return earlier. In the beginning, I care more about whether the walk fits your day than whether it is your longest possible route.

You do not have to count every step or walk faster each time. The outing might simply mark the transition between work and the evening. If company helps, arrange a specific time with someone. If you prefer a quiet walk, keep that space for yourself. Choose an arrangement you actually enjoy using.

Walking and strength sessions can share the week

You do not need to choose between time by the sea and training indoors. They can have different places in your schedule. On a training day, a short ordinary walk might be enough; on another day, you might enjoy a longer familiar route. Deliberately exhausting yourself before a gym session is unnecessary.

Prepare an alternative for rainy autumn days

Batumi's autumn can be rainy, so an outdoor plan benefits from a simple alternative. Think through clothing for the journey and allow for travel in wet weather. If a walk does not happen, the rest of the week still counts. Look at what comfortable activity remains possible today, rather than starting the whole plan over.

At home, you could repeat exercises you already know, provided they suit you and there is safe space. I do not suggest trying a complicated new workout simply because it is raining. A short familiar version is easier to manage. We can discuss independent practice with the same care as the exercises in your gym session.

An example for the first two weeks

Use this as a structure to discuss, rather than a target everyone must meet. We adjust the number of appointments to your level and schedule.

  • Early in week one: choose a time and test the journey.
  • During the week: take a few manageable walks.
  • At an introductory session: discuss your goal and try simple movements.
  • During week two: repeat the useful appointment windows without rushing to add more.
  • At the end: decide what to keep and what makes attendance difficult.

If you trained regularly before moving, you may want to return immediately to your previous weights. I prefer to see how familiar movements feel now. A break, a different commute and changed working hours are enough reason to start more gently. Your previous notes can inform the conversation without dictating today's workload.

How to review the new routine

Use a short checklist to review the arrangement:

  • Is getting ready easier?
  • Is the next session clearly planned?
  • Is there room for rest?
  • Do I have a practical option for wet weather?

These are useful signs that the organisation fits better. If each appointment means cancelling several important tasks, review the schedule before frustration builds. Adjusting the arrangement can make continuing easier.

I offer in-person training in Batumi, currently at Fitness Academy, 18A Pirosmani St. I speak Russian, English and Ukrainian. You can come after a long break; I choose the starting workload from your current preparation and goal.

To rebuild a training routine after moving, book your first session through the form on the site or message Instagram @overkovskaja. Tell me how your week works now, and we can choose a practical beginning.

Key takeaways

When should I return to training after moving?

I suggest using your current wellbeing and available time as the starting point. Begin with manageable activity rather than trying to recreate your previous programme immediately.

How should I account for Batumi's heat and humidity?

Choose comfortable times for travel and walking, allow pauses and tell your trainer how you feel. We can reduce the workload on a difficult day.

Can walks along the boulevard help me start a routine?

Yes, if you enjoy the route and it is convenient. I suggest using walking as an accessible part of your week and introducing strength sessions gradually.
